@moraih Can you tell us what size thread you used to get the 3 cm medallions? I couldn't find that in the writeups. Thanks.

Wow, @moraih !!! What an unstoppable inspiring force you are

I came across 2 other bloggers who have posted their squares (don't know whether they are on Craftree) :

Sorry, Size 20, same as the Brussel's square. I'll get that amended.

Do I need to add a legend for the abbreviations used in the instructions?

I got 60 square motifs out of one ball of size 20 Lizbeth thread. I think I'll do the Weldon's square with the second ball, and if I still have energy and time, I'll do the third ball with the Frauberger square!

I finally found time to finish off my ball and have a total of 63 squares.

That’s it...... I’m done......

I’ll get them in the mail and on their way sometime after the first of the year.

Wonderful! Thanks so much for getting such a huge amount done. Cathy is going to be thrilled! You were able to squeeze 3 more squares out of your ball than I could. I wasted a lot of thread early on trying to get the necessary thread lengths right. You ROCK!

Here's another square, a simplified version of Jane Eborall's square in her pattern pages: alt-text

Is it going to turn into a picture? Begin with a Self closing mock ring, 4-4. swap shuttles, make central ring, mock picot 2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2, Close, swap shuttles, complete SCMR 4-4. SS, small ring 3-3. After that it's simple, chains 4-4, alternating rings of 3+3+3-3 and 4+4+4-4, joining to the previous ring and the central ring, with small outward facing rings at the corners. Measures 3 cm square in size 20 thread.

My total is 30, I used a leftover cotton thread without label, thinner than a size 20, and followed a tip from Anna Tedesco that is substitute all 5ds with 6ds in the original pattern so the size of the motif is the same. Also, I started with a ring like suggested here, it's way easier and I think the direction of the four rings will not be noticed in the final arrangement. I'll tat some motifs more in January if and when I find the right thread. Thanks for the fun, Cathy!

Yes on variety! Thanks so much for adding to the list of choices.

@ninetta That is awesome! If only 1000 people respond with 10 squares, we can meet Cathy's goal. With that count, you've already done the work of three tatters!

@IdahoCanuck - 63 !!!
@ninetta - 30
@squeeky - 22
@becky400 - 6
@Tim - 4
@Judy - 1
@muskaan - 1
@janemactats - 1 (plus she revised an Eborall square to give us more variety of patterns to use!)

GUILDS that are participating:
Melbourne Chat & Tat - a couple
Tri-Tatters of Raleigh - (not including Moraih) 40

Here's the revised list for this week of squares completed that have been reported on this thread. I think @ninetta and @squeaky are going to make it a horserace! Whoever turns in the most squares to Cathy by the deadline of March 1st(this does NOT include me, since I'm the one offering the prize) will get a prize of one still in print book of their choice, and one out-of-print book of sufficient awesomeness of my choice. I'll announce which out-of-print book once I'm certain I can lay hands on the one I'm thinking of.

I've done 82 so far and should get a couple more done today while I'm working at my husband's comic shop. He gave the clerks the day off so I agreed to help fill in so we can get new comics out on the rack and fill (subscription) bags. It's all a very interrupt-driven process that will leave plenty of time to tat. Gotta jet! Everyone have a peaceful stress-free day. :)

I'll do a test tat of this today and try to put together a downloadable pdf file that is easy to print out. :)

I have started tatting a few squares, I will not make as many as you have but I will do some if everyone did a few then the total will grow quicker.

I'll be housebound by a cough this week, so I'll get some done. Starting tonight.

I created a pdf version of the square. I tried to add the pattern here, not sure if I've done it correctly. There is a link to the pdf on my blog, Janemactats. @moriah, if you can test the square and find the pattern, that would be wornderful!!

Alternative Brussels Square hopefully this is a link to the pattern, I'll get there eventually!

I contacted Jane Eborall to get permission to make the pdf of her pattern with your revisions. She can't figure out what pattern you based it on! Can you send me the link? I want to make sure we are completely above board with all this.

I made a test tat and it came out perfectly, but I used a regular ring in the center and a split ring to climb out to the outer round. I really like this one!

Noavatar
S

Glad you like it! You could also work it as two separate rounds. Here's the path I took to Jane E's pattern: Tatting and Not a lot Else - Patterns and Techniques Pages - Motifs, Snowflakes and Doilies - Square and Triangle Motifs - http://www.janeeborall.freeservers.com/Squaretriangle.pdf I don't know how to put an external link here, but this should enable you to find it!

Ah, I see the link does work, so that's fine!

I had no problems with the link or printing it off. I sent the link to her original pattern to Jane. Hopefully, we'll hear from her today. Good job! Just a couple notes - you did what I did on my original pdfs of the Weldon Square and the Frauberger Square - it would be good to state that the pattern requires a size 20 thread to get a 3cm square, and you should mention that this is a revised pattern based on an original by Jane Eborall. Our thread will be lost in time, but that pattern will be floating around hereafter so we should keep its provenance with the pattern. Future generations of tatters are gonna wanna know!

I like having the stitch counts added to the sample photo. That was clever and well done. :)

I'm really happy to add another square to the pile. I'm now halfway done with my second ball of thread doing the Weldon's Square. I think I got 8 done yesterday while running the cash register for Rick. At home I've got to get the Workbasket scanning done. Hopefully, I can have that done by Sunday...

@janemactats Jane E. got back to me very quickly, and said she doesn't think it's alike enough to be considered hers - the most that should be added is that it was "Inspired by" Jane's, if that. Jane E. gives her blessing, and also really likes the work you put into this. So we have fair winds and clear sailing! Thanks so much for adding your design to the Brussels Monument Project.

Noavatar
S

Fantastic @moraih, thanks for contacting Jane E. Do you think the record here and on my blog re Jane’s inspiration is enough, or shall I amend the pattern?

Noavatar
S

@moraih, I need to amend the pattern re thread size so will do both. Am trying to keep pattern to one page, I can probably adjust spacing to achieve that.

Noavatar
S

Ok, amoraih, I've amended the pattern, let me know what you think! I've done 10 of these squares and 10 Weldon squares, hope to get to 50 altogether before I go to the Post Office.
