Loving this mystery tat-a-long, first one I've ever done and can't wait for round three. Thank you Kersti.
can't wait to go home and tat :D ow god why did someone invent WORK?

BTW I've given some rough estimates of the time taken to do each round - would love to know if any of you have timed it and how close or not I am for you
in reply to kersti's post:
If you are downloading and printing each round as you go, you wouldn't necessarily need or want to download reprint the whole pattern each time..... I like to print each round separately as I go.
Hmm... perhaps I should give both options - although you could print just the page that you need
I'm still pretty new to tatting and I can't remember. Is there a regular size for the picots? I made myself a few measurement tools and I'm using the 1/4". I noticed there were others talking about how theirs is puckering in the center and it looks like mine will do that also (I don't have them all done yet) and I was wondering if it's because the picot is too small. I didn't see on the pattern a size set for them so I just picked the 1/4".
in reply to kersti's post:
will there then be 1 full download at the end? I like that idea best.
I'm the opposite, I like to see the progression of the full pattern at once. If something isn't working I don't have to go hunting through previous files to review what I've done. But I don't print anything, I'm all electronic so that makes a difference.
Question: Is it possible to copy-paste from a pdf in whatever the default pdf viewer is? I know I can do it on my machine but I don't even know what opens pdf on a clean install anymore...
In general I prefer one file, but I'm perfectly capable of working from individual files if people want an easier-to-print format. It would be nice to see the whole thing in one place, but I kind of assume it's a pattern from an no-copyright source and will be linked to that pattern in the database at the end? That would cover "all in one place" for me.
Looks like fun
The way you're posting the rounds is just fine. I like each on a separate page; that way I just pick the page I want to print. I don't want to reprint the whole thing every day.
I'm lost. How do I attach the thread to the center of picot of chain? Do I just use the shuttle thread now and not the ball? I have not done this before and maybe it's just that I'm tired but it's kicking my butt.
Hi Ciardia :-)
You are absolutely right. The join is to be made with the shuttle thread. It is called a Lock Join & you can check out tutorials on how to make it.
It is easy, but it locks the core thread. Hence make sure the chain is tensioned properly, and is in position, before tensioning the join.
Pull a loop of shuttle thread thru picot &
pass the same shuttle thru this loop.
Then tighten it.

Thanks. I got that part which was a big help (even though I didn't really find any tutorials on it). I'm self taught shuttle tatting and really new. I learned with needle tatting and didn't do much of that but got it.
I'm just stuck with not using the ball thread on how to do the next part with just the shuttle. Like how much "tail" do I leave to tat on? How do I know how much I'm going to need. I must be missing something since it seems I'm the only one having a problem but I have read through all of the pattern from start to end many times tonight and I just don't get it :(
in reply to Ciarda's post:
Hey @Ciarda, this 2nd row is still tatted with ball and shuttle both. You wind the shuttle with a small amount from the ball, and don't cut (continuous thread method again). When you make that first lock join to attach your thread, it's a bit vague to speak of shuttle thread versus ball thread, but it's done exactly as Muskaan said.
Since this round is made up of chains only, the bulk of the thread used will be from the ball, while the shuttle thread is used only as the core and for the joins to round 1. Therefore you don't need to load very much thread on your shuttle. A book I have (New Tatting) recommends the following:
Because the chains are really loopy I looped my thread 3 times around round 1 for measurement, rather take it (very) safe than run out mid-round, haha, but I had at least half of it leftover once it was done.
Hope this'll help, good luck! :)
Round 3 is now available for download.
As this round will take a little longer, the next round will be uploaded on Friday.
Do continue to ask ANY questions you have here - we're all only too happy to help. I'm loving seeing the work so far!
@Ciarda .... The following is for future reference ...... I hope @Ignes'answer has helped :-)
You can find many tutorials right here in Craftree. Here's the path :
(on left side panel) SEARCH ---> TUTORIALS ..click..... fill in the term in search box when you get the page. There will be quite a few tuts you can browse through.
eg. Here's the search result for Lock Join ( also called Shuttle Join) : http://www.craftree.com/tutorials/search_result?utf8=✓&categories=&rating=0&min_year=&max_year=&photos=0&projects=0&comments=0&search=Lock+join&searchtype=&source_id=&sortby=&user_id=&commit=Search
In general, I like Jane Eborall's tuts. These are easily printable, and she has covered a humungous amount of techniques. All her tuts are uploaded to Craftree, but you can check out her site as well : http://www.janeeborall.freeservers.com/TipsTechniques.htm
Similarly, Karen Cabrera has done the same on video .... Close to 150 demos !!! Here's the entire list ---- http://entrelanzaderas.blogspot.in/2010/10/clases-de-frivolite-tatting-lessons.html
There are many good tuts (written, diagrammed, video, .... ) but the above are a very good place to start.
And of course, we are all here, ready to help whenever you want :-)
Happy tatting :-)

Hey @kersti, I just looked at the instructions for round 3 and I'm a bit confused. I have 10 loops and 10 joining picots from round 2. Now in round 3 we alternate joining a ring, and then a chain to these picots, but somehow end up with 10 rings in the end? I think it can only be 5. What am I missing?

I was just about to say the same Ignes, I'm also confused. Number of stitches is right for 10 rings but when I started following the pattern which will only give 5 rings it started turning into a bowl rather than a doily!
I wanted to ask that question also It is cupping this way to much i am waiting to see what to do now
