I am a tatter who feels it is an art form and we all add our own special touch and style to what we tat so, I love to see modifications to patterns! You have made an improvement to what I originally did and I am so glad you shared! :)

Tattabug, thanks to you and Shannon for the pattern AND the video.

I am bookmarking the video for when I start shuttle tatting. She makes it look so EASY! :)

Tattfae, I just learned to tatt this weekend and I'm in love! I adore these little owls and like the tail better than the feet. Will you please share the pattern that you did because I don't know where to switch from feet to tail and have it centered at the bottom. I'm assuming that the stitches are the same whether you use shuttle or needle. (I'm learning needle) Thank you!!!

Hi Wendy: If I read it right the pattern with the tail is in message 23 in this thread.

Thank you but that isn't the tail change. She added some lock stitches and such but it still has the feet. :)

OK, thought it was that. Well, figuring it out from the two pictures it looks like the feet have a double number of stitches between them (4 stitches instead of 2), as if one picot was left out. So count that space as a 'potential picot'. When I look at the number of picots for the feet (6) plus the 'potential picot' I have a total of 7 picots. The tail has 5 picots or 1 less on each side (center picot = potential picot plus 2 on each side) so since there are 2 ds between each picot (if I remember correctly) I would either do 2 more ds before starting the picots and 2 more stitches after doing the picots (and do graduated picots to match the picture) which would keep the stitch count of the body the same or just forget the picot and 2 ds ending up with less stitches in the body. Or you could make the tail wider (using a total of 7 graduated picots rather than 5), working the same as the original pattern but working the 'potential picot' and making the picots graduated.

Just some suggestions for you. Hope one of them seems right to you.

Sounds like it makes sense. I'll try it tomorrow when I start the pattern. Have a killer headache right now. :( Thank you!!

Well, I figured out the tail part of the pattern. Here he is, horribly adorable! I don't like using needle point floss and I keep getting the pieces that I'm working on all twisted but I'm learning!

Either it's a really big earring or a nice pendant... :)

After you make these little guys, how do you hide the ends?

Wendy you did a wonderful job!! Macmarti I just hide my ends through a few of the ds by going into the caps of them.

Thanks, Tattabug! I will try it. They are just so darn cute!!

Just wanted to say thanks! I've tried just a single owl as my second project and it didn't turn out horribly! I think I put the bead on the wrong thread, but otherwise your pattern was simple and easy to follow (I think anyways! laughs)

Thanks!!
